The BSR floor and ceiling
Below about 50,000 BSR, big publishers and ad budgets dominate.
Above about 1,000,000, there are few buyers.
Between roughly 100,000 and 300,000, books sell organically without expensive ads.

The review gap
If the top 5 books all have 500+ reviews, move on.
Look for recent titles, published in the last 6 months, that rank well but have under 50 reviews. That means the topic sells and the leaders can still be beaten.

Keyword fragility
Do the top titles actually match the search? If the leading book is about “indoor gardening” but the search was “apartment balcony herb garden”, there is a relevancy gap you can fill.
